About the Position: This position functions as the first layer of defense in a security-in-depth concept to deter, detect, delay, assess, respond, and document unauthorized access to Army installations restricted to the general public.
Duties
Guards are responsible for preserving the life, health and safety of government personnel and safeguarding Army property, and technologies.
Protects against threats such as: unlawful entry, sabotage, espionage, theft, accidental or willful damage, and destruction on installations.
Guards determine fitness and grant access to those individuals that have met screening requirements and demonstrated a need to access the installation.
Providing AT/FP by emergency base closure, active shooter response, execution of random antiterrorism measure, emergency response to an all hazards disaster and an active physical deterrent against criminal and terrorist activities.
Serves as a Shift Leader who is an assistant to the Guard Shift Supervisor.
Performs installation access control for pedestrians and vehicles utilizing standard operating procedures, written orders and regulatory requirement as a guide to access determination for a wide range of unique circumstances.
Conducts Random Inspection Team (RIT) or Random Antiterrorism Measures (RAM) vehicle searches/inspections.
Inspects containers, personal property, documents on private, commercial and governmental vehicles, exercises tact, courtesy, and firmness in the performance of all force protection duties.
Operates and performs research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) workstation terminal(s) in accordance with (IAW) federal and state laws.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position meets the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Shifts are rotating.
- This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain the state certification for operating the National Criminal Information Center (NCIC) terminals.
- AR 190-56, Individual Reliability Program (IRP) requires an employee in this position understand that they are expected to maintain a high standard of conduct.
- This position requires successfully completing security guard training.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
- This position requires an employee wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- This position requires not having any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
- This position requires the incumbent to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT). Failure to meet the PAT requirements as outline is Army Regulation 190-56 "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program".
- This position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position requires the wearing of the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) Uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Specialized Experience is defined as one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience (1) experience participating as a team member or leading a security guard force; (2) experience controlling access of vehicles, visitors and pedestrians into a facility such as a military installation; (3) experience using automated systems to query and verify suitability for visitor entry into a facility such as a military installation.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
