This position involves a variety of duties in the mail room related to opening, packaging, shipping and administrative support duties for the Shipping Department in the Central Dental Laboratory, performing Mail Room duties using Office Automation and Shipping Service software, receiving and sorting packages, inspecting for breakage and routing for coding and submission. The Location of the Position is Central Dental Laboratory, VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS), Dallas, TX.

Duties

As a Mail and File Clerk you will provide a variety of duties in the mail room, opening, packaging, shipping and administrative support duties for the Shipping Department in the Central Dental Laboratory. Duties include, but are not limited to: Receives, Opens, reviews and processes shipments Determines the type of prosthesis requested and sorts them Retrieves, packs, and ships completed prosthesis from the cart/basket/bin and readies for shipment. Responsible for maintaining shipping carrier's PC based computer to generate address label and billing information. Distributes incoming Shipments and Contract Cases. Unpacks incoming packages, matches work orders, and prescriptions and distributes to appropriate staging areas after data entry into the automated system. Inspects all incoming components, such as casts of the oral cavity, checking for completeness and for breakage that might have occurred during shipment. Performs other clerical and administrative work in support of the Central Dental Laboratory. Maintains adequate stock levels of supplies needed for shipping department, including boxes, bubble wrap, labels, plastic containers, rubber bands, and all necessary forms. Scans documents and Maintains filing system for all case documents when cases are completed. Maintains a variety of automated database systems Enters shipping information for all completed cases utilizing the customized computer shipping system software. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:30am - 3:00pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/28/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. There is no time-in-grade requirement for a GS-04. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: To qualify for the GS-04: Experience: You must have one year of general experience. General Experience is defined as, but not limited to progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position being filled OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 2 years of education above high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial or technical school. (Note: Transcripts must be submitted if qualifying for the position using education.) OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of education above high school and general experience that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. To qualify by a combination, the total qualifying experience will be calculated as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; and the education will be calculated as a percentage of the education required for the grade level. These two percentages will be added, and the total percentages must equal at least 100%. NOTE: If you select this option, you must submit a copy of your transcript with your application. Education cannot be credited without documentation AND experience must clearly documented. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work requires walking (up to 3 hours), standing (up to 6-8 hours), bending (up to 1 hour), reaching above shoulder (up to 1 hour), carrying and/or lifting of light items such as papers and small boxes containing prostheses weighing less than 10 lbs., use of fingers and both hands required.
