The position will serve as a Nurse Midwife who plans and provides women's health care including management of intrapartum period for normal and high risk mothers. The position is located at the Pine Ridge Hospital in Pine Ridge, SD and reports to the Supervisor.

Duties
Provides independent, preventative, therapeutic and comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care.
Manages the care of women during the prenatal, intra-partum and post-partum period, and provides teaching, counseling and support to patients.
Provides on-call services and midwife/women's health care in the clinic, hospital, emergency department and outreach settings.
Performs or requests special screening and laboratory tests and interprets results, which includes performance of sexual assault examinations.
Collaborates with Obstetricians and Gynecologists when caring for women's health care.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education - A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Additional Education Requirement for Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Positions: A graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position.
License - Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Positions: Must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position.
In addition to the Basic Requirements above, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below for the grade level(s) you are applying to.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate that you meet the qualifications as indicated below for the grade level(s) you are applying to:
GS-09: Possession of a master's degree in professional nursing; OR
At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) AND possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program.
GS-11: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; OR
At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) AND possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program.
GS-12: At least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level. Examples of experience include: Provide full spectrum midwifery services. Triage patients, assess and provide a treatment plan. Perform complete well women, maternity (OB/GYN), and newborn assessments. Manage the care of women during the prenatal, intra-partum and post-partum period, provide family planning, gynecological care, counseling, health education and preventive services. Perform follow-up examinations.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
