As the Prosthetic Supply Technician at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center and its outpatient clinics, they are responsible for complete inventory of numerous stocked and patient order items provided. The incumbent receives and analyzes prosthetic request forms and prescriptions from physicians, therapists, patients and patient representatives. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring all equipment and supplies are posted, receiving and distributing mail or patient pick up orders.
Duties
Provides support for PSAS Management by involvement in quality improvement monitors, timely delivery and issuance of items and services, ensures contract and TJC compliance.
Operates the Prosthetics software package to maintain detailed and accurate accounting of all actions taken for Veterans and documents their records to show all items and services provided.
Responsible for coordinating with Logistics and other services as required, to ensure inventory is readily available in support to direct patient care by Prosthetics.
Reviews incoming shipments for correct quantities, items, and initiates actions to correct deficiencies.
Compiles and inputs information regarding usage and procurement into the database to maintain a complete and accurate inventory accounting system.
Determines proper distribution of equipment mailed for Veterans that need to be delivered to the specialty service for issuance to the patient.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/28/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Experience providing supplies and material to clinical and administrative areas of a complex health care facility.
Experience scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distributing medical and surgical supplies, instruments and other material, pulling stock, replenishing stock, maintaining records on stock levels, and monitoring expiration dates.
Adept in cleaning assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles.
Experience utilizing an automated system to maintain inventory.
Skilled in communication with customers regarding supplies and materials. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. If you are qualifying on education, transcripts are required. OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education. An equivalent combination of specialized experience and post high school education as described above that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position. For the GS-05, only education in excess of 60 semester hours (2 years) is creditable. If you qualify by a combination, your experience must be detailed in your resume and transcripts are required.

Physical Requirements: The work is somewhat sedentary but requires some physical effort such as walking, standing, bending and carrying boxes or other inventory items. Duties involve extended periods of working at computer terminal; some climbing is associated with stocking items in storage areas. Incumbent must be able to lift or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. There are no special physical demands.
