The position is located in the Medical Staff Department of the Whiteriver Service Unit (WRSU) located in Whiteriver, Arizona, and reports to the Clinical Director. The incumbent serves as an Orthopedic Surgeon (Part-Time) and medical staff member with primary clinical responsibilities in the Outpatient Department (OPD), Inpatient Family Care Unit (FCU), and Ambulatory Surgery Unit (ASU).
Duties
Directs activities of Orthopedics at Whiteriver Service Unit in accordance with: Objectives of the Indian Health Service; Administrative policies of the Whiteriver service unit and the Phoenix Area Indian Health Service; Established criteria of The Joint Commission; and Accepted national standards.
Performs long and short range planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating service activities to insure optimal level of patient care.
Establishes service methods, policies, and procedures. Directs the setting up, the monitoring of compliance with, the periodic review of, and the documentation of all standard operating procedures.
Plans, conducts and participates in teaching conferences related to Orthopedics for the medical and other departments at WRSU to keep them current on changes within the field of Orthopedics.
Provides direct patient care and supervises and manages the orthopedic care of patients in the WRSU clinics and as inpatients.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): In order to qualify for this position, you must meet one of the following degree requirements for a physician position.
EDUCATION: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. OR
Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States as demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country.
LICENSURE: This physician position provides direct patient care; as such, all eligible candidates must meet the licensure requirement. Possession of a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
GRADUATE TRAINING: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine degree, all candidates must have had at least (1) year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting. Graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below.
Internship:Completion of a 1-year internship program which involved a broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Residency: Completion of the first year of a residency program which involved training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Fellowship:Completion of a fellowship program which involved advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0602-15:
Completed (5) years of approved residency or other accredited training related to the specialty for this position. OR
Possess a combination of approved residency or other related accredited training and progressive experience equivalent in breadth, intensity and specialty related to this position. (Must demonstrate this combination of training and experience in supporting documentation).
In addition to meeting the Minimum Qualification, applicant must also meet the following Selective Placement Factor to be considered qualified for this position.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: Board Certification: Must be eligible to achieve Board Certification in specialty of Orthopedic Surgery and/or currently possess the required Orthopedic Surgery Board Certification. (Must submit evidence with your application to support achieved certification(s)).
