Duties
The primary duties of this position are:
Serves as a File Assistant directly responsible to the Regional Records Information Management Officer for accomplishing the management and disposition of region-wide-records according to all existing regulations, directives, and public laws.
Screens centralized and decentralized files to identify and withdraw record, non-record and reference materials for disposal actions on a regular basis.
Confers directly with higher headquarters staff members to resolve records disposition problems.
Travels to field offices to guide and assist personnel in all matters pertaining to records disposition actions and in conducting inventories; reviews, identifies, and evaluates records for historical value.
Accompanies the Regional Records Officer on trips to operating offices earmarked for closure for the purpose of taking inventory of all records and making disposition of all records held at closing office.
Qualifications
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - this information must be clearly supported in the resume.
To qualify at the GS-6 level, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-5 level in Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as: assisting in the planning or coordination of file operations such as classification, hard copy and electronic storage records retrieval or disposition; assisting in establishing workflow methods and procedures related to file operations; using management information systems, database and office automation software to enter, update, retrieve and maintain file information in tracking and database systems; designing and producing organizational and workflow charts or portions of reports related to storing and retrieving agency records or records disposition; assisting with coordinating record searches or information gathering related to records; assisting in developing strategies for process improvement related to file functions.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Time-In-Grade: Current career or career-conditional employees of the Federal government, or former career or career-conditional employees, who have a break in service of less than one year, are required to meet the time-in-grade restriction of one year of Federal experience at the next lower-grade, with few exceptions outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b). Applicants eligible under the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) are not required to meet time-in-grade restrictions in order to be considered.
