About the Position: Incumbent will serve as principal Safety and Occupational Health Specialist at the Corps and Division level of an Army Command or equivalent The program embraces a diversity of high risk factors to meet training and mission readiness requirements. The duties and responsibilities of this position require or authorize the individual to participate in the formulation, development, implementation, and enforcement of the Safety Programs.
Duties
Deploys with Area of Operation units and other operations as tasked by higher headquarters.
Adapts/supplements safety directives from higher authority, closely coordinates with Division, Corps, FORSCOM, and Army headquarters activities safety staff.
Serves as the Safety and Occupational Health Manager for a Brigade-sized unit with responsibility for planning, managing, and administering a safety and occupational health program.
Develops Area of Operations safety policies, procedures, plans, and regulations to ensure compliance with applicable host nation/foreign military personnel and civilians when in a deployed status.
Ensures proper accident notification and investigation procedures are followed.
Assesses the effectiveness of the Safety Program to identify strengths and weaknesses and develops methods and techniques to improve operational and systemic deficiencies.
Provides technical guidance and assistance to deployed commanders and staff officers to ensure compliance with established criteria, mission goals, and risk management.
Provides interpretation of technical and general/vague criteria to assist in the formulation of appropriate control measures.
Develops on-the-spot methods and techniques to control or eliminate associated high-risk hazards.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

- This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights .You will be asked to sign an agreement acknowledging that you are aware of the obligation .

- Physical examination required.
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- The military ACU is the duty uniform (when deployed, or in field environments).
- Must possess or be able to obtain a U.S. Government Vehicle drivers license within 30 days of employment and be able to maintain the same.
- Incumbent may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and/or irregular duty hours.
- Incumbent may be required to perform TDY up to 50% of the time on an annual basis.
- Work involves frequent visits and temporary duty at field sites as well as deployment and participation in military exercises in a variety of environments.
- Incumbent must be able to meet weapons qualifications requirements.
- Employee must pass a medical examination and receive required immunizations for the overseas/deployed location. Anthrax inoculation program participation may be required to meet deployability requirements.
- This position is considered essential to support Army's mobilization and wartime mission during periods of increasing tension or mobilization.
- The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
- Must complete all required training and achieve the CP-12 Level 1 and Explosives Safety Level 1 professional certificates within 12 months, or prior to deployment, as outlined in the 0018 job series Master Training Plan.

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, which includes Managing safety or occupational health program, developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management, and applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
