About the Position: This position is located in the Archives and Special Collections Department, Ike Skelton Combined Arms Research Library. The primary function of the Department is the preservation and digitization of archival materials which affect the Department's reference and research services.
Duties
As a Supervisory Librarian, you will perform the following duties which is not an all-inclusive list:
Responsible for long- and short-term planning of policies and procedures to meet the Special Collections objectives set by the Library Director and Assistant Librarian.
Ensures the provision of archival research by incorporating the customers information needs, preferences, and abilities in creating library reference and research products, services, and programs.
The incumbent is the digitization services manager and supervisor of the CARL digitization team and coordinates the development, implementation, maintenance, and preservation of digital projects, associated databases, and born digital records.
Develops the archival collections in order to support research by a wide range of scholars including students of CGSC, graduates, faculty, and others whose work relies on primary source materials, rare books, and manuscripts.
Supervises a staff performing normal first-line supervisory responsibilities. Orients new employees, plans work to be accomplished, sets priorities, and establishes milestones and schedules for completion of work.
Assigns continuing program responsibilities or projects to subordinates; furnishes advice and guidance on problems and reviews completed work for conformance to established policies.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- Employee is REQUIRED to occasionally work nights and/or weekends.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

BASIC REQUIREMENT FOR Librarian: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree. (Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience assisting in the development of library policies and procedures; Identify and/or analyze potential archive materials for historical pertinence and value; Integrate digital library holdings with existing collections. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
