This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, USCG, Yard, Industrial Department, Structural Group in Baltimore, MD.

Duties

You will assist journeymen Boat Joiners and Sheetmetal Mechanics with work that cannot be handled alone and also performs less difficult tasks alone. Being a civilian working for the Coast Guard makes you a valuable team member.  Typical duties include: * Using power and hand tools common to the trades for working on less difficult tasks such as preparing and finishing surfaces by grinding, sealing and sanding decks, and deck coverings; repairing, installing various types of terrazzo, epoxy, etc. * Installing protecting coverings where needed; installing sheathing; assisting in the fabrication and installation of sheetmetal components. * Assisting in drydocking operations.

Requirements

  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.

Qualifications

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: Likelihood of success in assignments which require interest, motivation, and readiness to do simple work.  (SCREENOUT) 2. Ability to handle weights and tools. 3. Ability to follow oral directions. 4. Dexterity & safety National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
