About the Position: Performs required preventive maintenance for ranges, training areas, and training facilities. Inspects and assists in target maintenance and repair, performs grounds and range maintenance tasks, and operates vehicles and rough terrain forklift. Performs general labor tasks as needed and operates small power tools.
This is a permanent position.
Duties
Performs operator and organizational level maintenance on tools and equipment.
Rebuilds and maintains the impact area and installation boundary fire breaks.
Maintains and fabricates structures, facilities, and equipment to support range operations.
Performs a variety of labor tasks such as grounds maintenance, trash collection, policing grounds, and
digging ditches and trenches.
Operates 5-20 K capacity standard and rough terrain forklift to position targets and other objects on
ranges.
Inventories, receives, identifies, stores, exchanges, and/or issues equipment or materials.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires you to submit to and pass a pre-employment physical examination.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain valid, proper category State Commercial Driver?s license (CDL) with HazMat endorsement.
- This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program and requires pre-employment and periodic drug testing.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain Department of Transportation Hazardous Materials Training and Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA) Hazardous Waste Management certificate.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain Occupational Safety and Health Administration?s (OSHA) Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification and OSHA Hazard Communication (HAZCOM) training.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain AMMO-45, Introduction to Ammunition Certification and AMMO-67 DL HAZMAT Familiarization and Safety in Transportation certificate.
- Position requires working irregular duty hours which may include shift work, rotating shifts, weekend/ holiday work and overtime.
- Requires lifting of equipment weighing up to 70 pounds, with the assistance of another employee.
- Performs work in all types of weather.

Experience Required:

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Maintenance Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator/Forklift Operator) without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common tasks including performing carpentry, electrical, forklift operation, and motor vehicle operation in support of range maintenance projects. Operating common hand and power tools, equipment, and measuring devices of the carpentry and electrical trades to detect deficiencies and perform a variety of preventive maintenance work for buildings and facilities. Operating a motor vehicle and forklift. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Assignments routinely require lifting of equipment weighing over 70 pounds, with the assistance of another employee. Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping and climbing. Requires frequent exposure to inclement weather conditions.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Duties involve working with or in close proximity to explosives or incendiary material in an environment where training is being conducted. Performs maintenance and repair work on firing missile ranges in all types of weather. The work requires knowledge and application of and strict adherence to work procedures and safety precautions to avoid potential hazards of high pressure lines and high voltage lines in the Armor Moving Target Carrier (AMTC). Work subjects the employee to the possibility of cuts, bruises, electric shock, broken bones, skin irritation, burns and insect, reptile and rodent bites. Wears protective clothing and uses safety equipment (e.g., safety shoes, hard hat, eye/face/ear protection, etc.). Work may also expose the employee to the hazards of unexploded live rounds (duds), explosive simulator devices (flash, steel on steel, and smoke pyrotechnics).
