If selected, you will assist the Office of Risk Strategy (ORS) and Division of Corporation Finance (CF) leadership with directing the Division's risk management capabilities, promoting a risk-aware culture across the Division, advancing the implementation of effective risk management practices, and identifying emerging and evolving risks in business trends and filers' disclosures and operationalizing those throughout the Division. This position is located in Washington DC.

The Deputy Chief Risk Officer position is in the Office of Risk and Strategy (ORS) within the Division of Corporation Finance (Division), and reports directly to the Division's Chief Risk Officer. Typical duties include: Coordinating improvements to the Division's risk management program with ORS leadership, including the processes for identifying, assessing, prioritizing, mitigating, monitoring, and reporting on key risks that could impair the Division's ability to achieve its mission or goals. Implementing and operationalizing ongoing and continuous support for the disclosure review program with information on disclosure and business trends across industries and geographies while identifying risk-based metrics. Collaborating with Division leadership to promote effective governance of significant risks that span the Division and serving as a highly-engaged partner to ensure other key risks are locally identified and owned, and risk measurement, mitigation, and monitoring tools are effectively deployed. Advising and informing Division leadership on risk management matters and promoting the consideration of risk management factors in budgetary, operational, and strategic decision-making. Identifying and researching emerging and evolving risks that impact issuers, filers, the Division, and the Agency, performing other duties as assigned, and performing administrative and human resource management functions.

  • DRUG TESTING: This position may be subjected to drug testing requirements.
  • PERMANENT CHANGE OF STATION (PCS): Moving/Relocation expenses are not authorized.
  • DIRECT DEPOSIT: All Federal employees are required to have Federal salary payments made by direct deposit to a financial institution of their choosing.
  • This position is not in the collective bargaining unit.
  • This position is eligible to request telework in accordance with the SEC 's telework policy.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. BASIC REQUIREMENT: All applicants must possess the following J.D. or LL.B. degree --AND-- Active membership of the bar in good standing in any state, territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the commonwealth of Puerto Rico. (Note: proof of bar membership will be required before entry on duty. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the basic requirement, applicants must also meet the minimum qualification requirement. SK-17: Applicant must have at least four years of post J.D. work experience identifying legal issues, providing legal analysis and recommendations, and preparing legal documents. Applicant must also include at least three years of the following: providing guidance and oversight to an organization's approach to assessing and managing its risk identification and assessment processes; implementing and operationalizing surveillance and monitoring programs related to business objectives; representing an organization, internally and externally, in engagements with senior level representatives of other organizations or agencies; and interpreting, applying, guidance and evaluating the provisions of the Securities Act of 1933 and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and policy issues related thereto.
