The primary purpose of this position, NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTER WG-3705-10/11, is to accomplish a variety of tasks using nondestructive inspection methods and interpret the relevancy of flaws in the weapons systems being tested. To provide nondestructive quality assurance support to host tenant agencies and to assure fabricators services conform.
Duties
Use ultrasonic-eddy current processes to perform inspections of aircraft, engine, missile, ground support equipment, etc.
Use radiographic equipment to perform inspections of aircraft, engine, missile, ground support equipment, etc.
Serve as Non-Destructive Inspector (NDI) Technical Advisor to advise responsible shop supervisors, engineering, quality assurance and other related functions of defects found.
Use and maintain tools.
Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
Applies magnetic particle and/or liquid penetrant inspection to detect and interpret the relevancy of flaws in a variety of parts.

- NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL.
- May perform associated duties as required to ensure viable an effective nondestructive and spectrometric oil analysis programs.
- Incumbent upon this position will be the ability to provide adequate technical qualification training top fellow employees and assist in upgrade training of apprentices.
- The weapons systems maintained will include but are not limited to C-130, H-53, UH-1N, and HH-60 acft.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3700 Metal Processing Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
This position is a developmental (WG-10 target WG-11) position. This position may be filled at any grade level. Individual selected may be promoted without further competition, upon meeting all legal and regulatory requirements. Starting salary indicated on this vacancy announcement is for the (WG-10). Attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities is required before promotion to the next higher grade and is dependent on demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the next higher grade level, meeting all regulatory requirements, and recommendation for promotion by the supervisor. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed. Military Spouse candidates exercising their preference will be placed at the full performance level, if considered to be best qualified and selected.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Prolonged standing, frequent lifting of parts and materials weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted, and occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance of lifting devices or other workers is required. Subject to eyestrain when using black light. Both hands and good eyesight required. Work requires stooping, bending, reaching, stretching, and climbing in, on , or through aircraft with equipment. NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside shop and in areas adjacent to or removed from the shop. Exposed to oils, which may cause dermatitis or allergy. Subject to possible radiation damage of body tissues. Wears radiation monitoring devices, standard safety equipment, and protective clothing.
