This position is located in Refugee, Asylum and International Operations, Asylum Division, Chicago Asylum Office. As an Supervisory Asylum Officer, you will supervise individuals who review determinations on complex applications for benefits, including whether an individual qualifies for asylum. Supervisory Asylum Officers (Section Chiefs) also work in collaboration with FDNS to identify and detect.

Duties

Supervise individuals who review determinations on applications for asylum, credible and reasonable fear screenings, NACARA, termination of asylum, motions to reopen and reconsider, and related applications. Ensure office resources are effectively used to timely process asylum, credible fear, reasonable fear and NACARA case. Provide technical and administrative direction to Asylum Division staff whose work involves the adjudication of asylum and related applications. Conduct reviews aimed at ensuring that applications for asylum benefits and other services are being granted appropriately and consistently, and that an appropriate level of quality in interviewing, case write-ups, and out-processing is achieved. Formulate short- and long-term strategies for the office consistent with Asylum Division goals to help the organization accomplish its mission and objectives, and prepare plans and timetables for the implementation of these strategies. Prepare plans, reports, and analyses of the immigration benefits operation, to include reviewing individual and program performance, and taking action to ensure compliance with established requirements, goals, standards, and objectives.

Qualifications

The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 07/21/2023. Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 07/21/2023. GS-14: You qualify at the GS-14 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Serving as an expert in analyzing the impact of existing or proposed legislation on asylum and/or immigration benefits programs; Developing asylum and/or immigration program standards, policies and procedures; Coordinating the long-range planning of new asylum and/or immigration benefits programs; and, Assessing the productivity, effectiveness and efficiency of asylum and/or immigration program operations.
