About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Public Works, Fort Campbell, KY. Fort Campbell lies on the Kentucky/ Tennessee border between Hopkinsville, KY & Clarksville, TN about 45 miles NW of Nashville. Both visitors & residents enjoy the shops & eateries of downtown Hopkinsville & Clarksville. The cost of living is lower than the average for all major U.S. cities.
Duties
Perform technical work in support of the installation forest management program.
Serve as s a team member to suppress range and forest fires on the fire line in a forest area.
Determine merchantable volume of timber marked based on measurement of tree diameter, merchantable lengths and amount of defect and form.
Participate as a team member in conducting continuous forest inventories.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to work in demanding physical conditions in various types of terrain and weather, sometimes in hazardous conditions.
- Must work fluctuating hours and overtime as necessary and is on stand-by 24/7 during fire season.
- Must be able to pass the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) firefighter physical test for arduous duty.
- Must obtain and maintain a current Department of Defense (DoD) pesticide applicator certification.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
- This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program.
- Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, 'Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical Under the Drug
Abuse Testing Program,' or a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). (AR 600-85, chp 5, 5-8c(9).

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:1) Assisting with selective tree marking and timber volume estimation; or 2) Assisting with wildland fire management programs such as prescribed burns and fire suppression. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
OR
Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Forestry, Silviculture, Botany, Taxonomy, Ecology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
