About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Public Works, Fort Campbell, KY. Fort Campbell lies on the Kentucky/Tennessee border between Hopkinsville, KY & Clarksville, TN about 45 miles NW of Nashville. Both visitors & residents enjoy the shops & eateries of downtown Hopkinsville & Clarksville. The cost of living is lower than the average for all major U.S. cities.

Duties

Perform technical work in support of the installation forest management program. Serve as s a team member to suppress range and forest fires on the fire line in a forest area. Determine merchantable volume of timber marked based on measurement of tree diameter, merchantable lengths and amount of defect and form. Participate as a team member in conducting continuous forest inventories.

Requirements

  • This position requires incumbent to maintain a current DOD pesticide applicator certification.
  • Incumbent must be able to work in demanding physical conditions in various types of terrain and weather, sometimes in hazardous conditions.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing.
  • Incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime, fluctuating hours and is on stand-by 24/7 during fire season.
  • This position requires a National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) firefighter pre-employment and annual physical.

OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Forestry, Silviculture, Botany, Taxonomy, Ecology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Fire ManagementPlanning and EvaluatingTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
