Duties
Serves as a member of hazardous material emergency response team and structural or crash firefighting crew.
As a member of an emergency response team uses detection, identification, and monitoring equipment to identify hazardous products.
Uses available resources material to determine life, health, and environmental hazards.
Uses dikes, dams, booms and other means to confine hazardous releases.
Uses patch, seal, and leak kits or other specialized equipment to contain hazardous substance releases, protect lives and conserve property.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Pre-Appointment physical required and annually thereafter.
- Position is subject to random drug testing.
- This position requires a valid stateside driver license.
- This position requires the employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing.
- This position requires you to work rotating shifts and a 72-hour workweek.
- This position requires heavy physical lifting up to 45 pounds, climb ladders up to 100 feet, climb in and over obstacles and move charged fire hose lines.
- This position is subject to recall for all firefighting emergencies.
- This position is an inclement weather position.
- REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS AS PART OF MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: HAZMAT Technician Certification, Firefighter I; Firefighter II; Airport Firefighter, Driver Operator -Pumper, Driver Operator - ARFF, Emergency Medical Technician
- Designated Mission Essential position: Incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations as directed by the Division Chief/Commander.
- May be required to remain on duty after the official shift ends, i.e., mandatory overtime, subject to recall to duty.
- Incumbent must maintain a functioning telephone at their residence to aid in contact during recall/emergency situations.
Qualifications

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: drives and operates firefighter vehicles; controls and extinguishes fires; assists controlling hazardous materials incidents and operates fire communications equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, must be certified within the DoD Fire and Emergency Services Fire Fighter Certification system at HAZMAT Technician, Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Airport Firefighter, Driver Operator - Pumper, Driver Operator - Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF), Emergency Medical Technician
