This position is located within the Social Work Service, Caregiver Support Program at the VA Medical Center in Big Springs, Texas. The Program Support Assistant is responsible for performing administrative and program analysis work, ensuring program compliance for Veterans in the Caregiver Support Program, and providing general administrative assistance for the Service.
Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provides technical program assistance to the Caregiver Support Program by performing analysis and/or evaluation of program operating processes.
Composes, prepares, and processes correspondence of a clinical and non-clinical nature and ensures proper format, grammar, and spelling are used.
Obtains, organizes, files, and retrieves reports, correspondences, and numerical data for use in preparing status complex reports, briefings, outreach materials, and presentations in a variety of formats.
Gathers information from a local network file shares, internet and other on-line file shares, internal electronic records, and other verbal/written sources to prepare suspense and report materials, composes documents to support submission.
Analyzes workflow to determine potential problem areas and makes recommendations to correct these areas and to improve coordination between the various units and/or offices.
Maintains budget information for program, acts as fund control point clerk, is program staff travel facilitator, coordinates with fleet management for vehicle needs, serves as back up timekeeper for Social Work Service.
Receives and screens telephone inquiries, facilitates hand off to clinical staff, provides overview information for program.
Takes and transcribes minutes for program meetings.
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by management in support of the Program and coverage of Social Work Service.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must have the following experience:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in Federal Service that has given you the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of a Program Support Assistant GS-6. Specialized experience includes: providing administrative support in a medical setting; maintaining administrative records; preparing and editing correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, presentations; and collecting, analyzing, compiling, and reporting program data. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title; duties; month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.
