The work leader of the Electrical Unit of the Electrical/Structural Shop, composed of Journeymen Electricians, High Voltage Electricians, Electrical Repairman, Electrical Helpers, and additional assigned position may be required. Must be an experienced Journeyman level electrician with construction and/or maintenance background.
Duties
Major Duties include (but not limited to):
Maintains complex electrical equipment, makes repairs to high and low voltage systems, uses engineering to layout, install or modify existing electrical systems.
Ability to take field measurements and transpose them to job needs, read and understand operating instructions and procedures, interpret electrical codes and record necessary data.
Calculates electrical load requirements for existing or new electrical equipment, including voltage, voltage drops, current and temperature, raceway/conduit capacity.
Must be able to read blueprints and schematics.
Uses electrical testing equipment such as meggers, multi-meters, watt meters, power factor meters, phase rotation meters, frequency meters, ground fault interrupters, cathodic protection tests.
Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent must exert moderate to arduous physical effort involving walking, standing, bending, stooping, lifting, working overhead and crawling. Incumbent must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding. Must be able to lift loads of up to eighty (80) pounds.
Must be able to identify colors as most all electric wires are color-coded and failure to identify colors would seriously hamper work in progress or expose fellow workmen to dangerous electric shock. will be required at times to work in cramped or confined areas and in close proximity to operating machinery, to work from ladders or scaffolds and may be subject to falling objects and inclement weather. Incumbent may be subjected to dust, fumes, noise, dampness, scrapes, bums, electrical shock, dirt and extreme temperatures.
