The position supports the Construction Crew within in the Facilities Management Services. The incumbent performs preventive installations, troubleshooting, and repairs on various electrical systems, fixtures and controls in support of the James A. Haley VA Medical Center.
Duties
The incumbent as a Journeyman Electrician performs, as assigned any combination of the following electrical work
Installation, modification, repair, troubleshoot and test new and exisiting electrical system from underground primary 15 KVA (13,200) volts to secondary 5KVA (4,160) to 480/277 t0 208/120 volts.
Services and maintains secondary distribution systems and protections equipment, storage batteries and chargers.
Installs modifiers, and repairs flexible cords and cables, lighting fixtures, heaters, receptables, outlets, circuit breakers, switches, relays and controllers.
Install services and troubleshoots (testing and locating defects) motors, generators.
Perform some, electronics work functions on solid state equipment.
Maybe called upon to perform other duties in the absence of another employee, to meet emergency work loads, or for training purposes.
Responsible for accurately completing labor time cards and work orders daily as required for the Facilities Management Services System.
Must prepare request for materials and supplies.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 07:00am-15:30pm

Physical Requirements: The incumbent frequently makes repair and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms and where work is hard-to-reach places. This requires him to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent frequently handles, lifts,carries and set up parts and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds. Occasionally, may lift and carry that weigh over 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: The work is performed in all areas of the hospital environment, including general medical and surgical, and tuberculosis wards, inside and outside, and is often dirty, dusty, and greasy. The incumbent is sometimes required to make repairs and installations outside in bad weather and in work areas that are noisy. Occasionally exposed to the possbility of broken bones, electrical shock and burns. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.
