Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing direct clerical, administrative and technical support to Human Resources Specialists who provide HR services in the areas of recruitment and placement, classification, employee relations, employee benefits, personnel action coding/processing and various other HR services. Typical work assignments will include: -Processes the full range of personnel pay actions ensuring actions are processed through the National Finance Center/Empower (EHR) System in accordance with applicable agency and Office of Personnel Management (OPM) guidance, rules and regulations. -Conducts new employee orientation and process all on-boarding forms. -Examines and researches a variety of pay and processing matters or problems. -Researches and applies applicable laws and regulations sufficient to gather and organize information for response to inquiries and/or resolve problems referred by others. -Uses word processing software and printing devices to produce a variety of standardized documents such as standard forms, letters and reports. -Updates and maintaining various electronic files. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.

Qualifications

To be eligible for a GS-0203-06 Human Resources Assistant, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-05 level in federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized Experience is defined as experience performing the following types of duties: interpreting processing guides, procedures, and data elements to code and process personnel and pay action data into personnel data systems; providing general information to employees concerning employee benefits; reviewing reports to ensure accuracy, discrepancies and missing information; referring inquiries about specific issues or actions to appropriate personnel; and conducting in-processing for new employees. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.
