You will serve as an INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (SYSADMIN/NETWORK) in the Command Information Office (CIO) of NAV FACILITIES ENGINEERING COMMAND SE.

Duties

You will perform a variety of functions on a wide range of issues, provide advice and recommendations for Network administration. You will install new or modified hardware, operating systems, Network Devices, Routers and Firewalls. You will manage accounts, network devices, and access to systems and equipment. You will manage the installation and integration of systems fixes, updates and enhancements. You will ensure the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles and practices in the delivery of network administration services.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • Earn and maintain appropriate credentials from the Cyber IT/CSWF Qualification Matrix (SECNAV 5-5239.2) associated with the specialty area and level commensurate with the scope of major assigned duties for the position to which you are assigned.
  • Participate in a continuous learning program as (SECNAVINST 1543.2.) A minimum of 40 hours of Cyber IT/CWSF related continuous learning annually documented in a current individual development plan signed by both the incumbent and supervisor.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: I have one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined: 1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Ensures and manages systems resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, integrity, efficiency and recoverability. 2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Administering the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware and software systems. 3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Recommends resolution to problems and issues, prepares and presents reports and plans, and coordinates projects to meet future needs. 4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Resolves hardware/software interface and interoperability problems. In addition to my experience demonstrating the four competencies above, I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Maintain network operation and maintenance concepts to establish connectivity between remote sites; 2) Develop and implement configuration management plans for complex Local Area Network (LAN)s and Wide Area Network (WAN)s to identify and resolve network issues; 3) Analyze network architecture trends to improve network access control; and 4) Configure hubs, switches and routers for reliable performance.
