Job opening: Heavy Mobile Equipment Repair Inspector

Salary: $31 - 36 per hour

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Direct Hire under DIB & MRFTB. About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. Employees work a 4/10 work week, Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and daily child care available.

Duties

Perform inspections and repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment. Perform full technical inspections and quality surveillance of a variety of major end items and secondary components including but not limited to equipment in the following categories: Heavy Mobile Equipment, Powered Support, and Automotive. Operate test, measurement and diagnostic equipment as part of the inspection process prior to actual parts determination to determine initial cause of mechanical problems. Perform repairs and adjustments such as installing, cleaning and adjusting carburetors, replacing points and condensers, cleaning and replacing spark plugs, installing and adjusting belts. Perform organizational in-storage maintenance and equipment serviceability inspections as scheduled. Select equipment needed to unload equipment if operable, or drive vehicles and equipment from carrier to storage area. Prepare folder for vehicles and equipment accepted into the Cannibalization Point.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a valid state commercial driver's license (CDL) Class A.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Testing Program. Drug test is required annually and thereafter.
  • This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete a pre-placement and annual medical examination in order to lift or carry items weighting up to 50 lbs.
  • This position requires a Governement license for equipment and vehicles being operated, i.e. forklifts

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Repair Inspector ~ without more than normal supervision- I have the ability to perform Heavy Mobile Equipment Inspector duties. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and/or electronic systems/components, such as carburetors, condensers, spark plugs, belts, and brake shoes. Conduct spot painting, and cooling system flush. Apply rust inhibitors to parts and components - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Performs work which involves frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and working in awkward positions or cramped areas. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds and lifts heavier items using jacks, hoists or helpers. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside where it is drafty and noisy and fumes from vehicles are usually present. Employees must stand on hard surfaces for long periods of time. Occasionally, must crawl under vehicles and inspect while on hard, usually damp surfaces. Occasionally, works in adverse weather conditions. Dirt, dust, and grease are frequently present. Vehicle fluids, such as battery acids and hydraulic fluids may cause burns or irritate the skin. Personal protective gear is provided as needed.
