Job opening: Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Leader

Salary: $32 - 37 per hour

About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700.

Duties

Pass instructions from supervisor to other workers, demonstrate proper work methods, and start work by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individuals. Check work for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines. Provide information to supervisor on status, progress of work, cause of delays and overall work operations. Assure that safety and housekeeping rules are followed. Perform vehicle inspections ranging from acceptance, in-process and final inspections. Answer workers questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions and other directives.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires successful completion of pre-placement medical examinations.
  • Temporary Duty Travel, TDY may be required up to 5% of the time.
  • This position requires a valid United State issued Commercial vehicle Driver's License (CDL).
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Testing Program. Drug test is required annually and thereafter.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. Pass instructions onto other workers. Assist lower graded mechanics with repairs and manage workflow and suspense. Diagnose and repair a variety of equipment to include generators, forklifts, construction equipment, and passenger/commercial vehicles. Remove and install components of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems. Repair A/C, electrical, and braking systems. Read and interpreted parts lists, manufacturers' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)Ability To Lead or SuperviseKNOWLEDGE OF EQUIPMENT ASSEMBLY, INSTALLATION, REPAIR, ETC.Technical Practices (Theoretical, precise, artistic)Troubleshooting PHYSICAL EFFORT: May be required to work in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. Work frequently requires climbing on top of equipment or crawling under equipment to work on the various components. Incumbent will frequently have to bend, reach, stretch and crouch. Work is strenuous, often requiring the lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 45 pounds. Incumbent will also push, pull and turn heavy parts and equipment. Moves heavier items with assistance of other workers. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside. The incumbent is exposed to drafts, dirt, grease and vehicle fumes. Incumbent is exposed to some inclement weather such as rain, snow, cold and freezing temperatures; and may be required to work in muddy and wet or icy areas when outdoors. Subject to burns, scrapes, cuts, bruises, shocks and strain.
