This position is assigned to Rehabilitation and Extended Care Line (RECL) located at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. The incumbent serves as a Program Support Assistant under the supervision of the Administrative Officer or designee. The incumbent provides administrative support to the RECL with special emphasis on support of the Polytrauma program.
Duties
Responsible for collecting, compiling and/or entering statistical information to support the RECL management and program operations.
Assist with scheduling the patient flow through the RECL with special emphasis on the Polytrauma program, RECL therapy clinics, Wound and Geriatric Clinics with a goal of compliance with performance measures at all times.
Participates in performance improvement activities related to the RECL programs quality improvement processes.
Must be able to prioritize job tasks and work independently, while at the same time, coordinating work efforts with staff from different areas within the RECL as well as many other services within the MEDVAMC and with members of the community at large.
Coordinates and takes minutes for various RECL program meetings as assigned. His/her responsibilities include management of and reporting on the administrative activities of the Polytrauma Program.
Utilizes a variety of software programs and communication tools to input and retrieve data as required.
Perform a variety of administrative functions and assignments necessary to the smooth management of the office, such as, purchasing functions to include procurement of services, products, supplies, and/or equipment.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/02/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Skilled in planning, organizing and coordinating work made up of administrative practices and complex organizational processes to include communication and project management.
Experience and proficiency in scheduling practices using a variety of computer software programs, including word processing, e-mail, Excel spreadsheets, and maintain tracking systems.
Experience with use of medical center correspondence procedures and the rules of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and required formats to properly review and prepare letters, memoranda, directives, and reports.
Experience maintaining security or confidentiality of records, equipment, or computer access.
Experience as a timekeeper.

Physical Requirements: The work is basically sedentary in a clinic environment. Some bending, standing, and carrying of supplies may be required. Some walking to all parts of the facility is required since the incumbent will be working with a variety of clinical and administrative services.
