About the Position: This position is located at Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Duties

Work under the general supervision of the Security Manager who provides overall instructions on objectives, priorities, and deadlines Design, develop, coordinate and plan Physical Security and Crime Prevention Programs, Antiterrorism/Force Protection Program, Operations Security, Industrial Security and Security Surveys/Inspections. Plans, implements, and manages the Personnel Security program for the Medical Department Activity Alaska (MEDDAC-AK) . Responsible for supervising the Security Guard Supervisor and managing the 20- person armed Security Guard Force. Evaluate position sensitivity requirements to keep at a minimum the number of positions requiring access. Review and evaluate reports of investigations, personnel files, and other records to recommend whether to adjudicate, deny, revoke, suspend or restrict security access and/or clearance.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • Must be able to obtain SpeD certification within two years of employment.
  • Overtime, holidays and weekends may be required.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: such as Physical Security, Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice and Security Management. (NOTE: You must attached a copy of your transcripts) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. (NOTE: You must attached a copy of your transcripts) You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communications StrategyInformation SecurityPhysical SecuritySecurity Program Management Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
