This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, International Port Security (IPS) Program (LANT-51) at Atlantic Area (LANTAREA) in Portsmouth, VA.
Duties
As a Security Specialist in the International Port Security (IPS) Program, this position serves as a foreign port security assessor and as a foreign port security capacity building team member.

- This position requires a Secret clearance.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- A one-year probationary period may be required.
Qualifications
To Qualify for the GS-12 Grade Level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
Examples of specialized experience includes: Coordinating a variety of sensitive and complex tasks encompassing the entire spectrum of maritime and port security; leading or assisting in the review of Facility Security Plans (FSP) and Alternative Security Plans (ASP) and participating in Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) facility inspections to ensure compliance; and serving as spokesperson at public meetings, hearings, and briefings related to maritime and port security.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
