This position is located in the Diabetes Program within the Division of Public Health, Crownpoint Service Unit, Crownpoint, New Mexico. The primary purpose of the position is to operate the mobile van and assist the medical mobile van team which delivers primary and preventive health care to several target groups in the community.
Duties
Drives a diesel driven cab-chassis truck with an actual GVW of 26,000 lbs. x 40 feet in length, (medical mobile van) ? ton pick-up trucks, vans, and sedans, to carry out the objectives of the work unit.
Responsible for the basic maintenance of assigned program vehicles and the loading and unloading of health supplies and equipment used by the Staff.
Coordinates and documents all required repairs and services with the contracted service agency, assures that the work is accomplished in a timely manner.
Empties, cleans and sanitizes the unit to ensure it is ready for the next day and checks connections to proper connections for electrical and computer supplies.
Completes work orders as needed and informs supervisor.
Provides assistance with explaining the health care practices, health instructions, and health teaching/education presented by the health care/service providers, individual clients, family members, groups, outreach clinics and other community settings.
Assists with the patient registration process by helping patients in completing forms and ensure forms are signed by patients.
Assists with clerical duties of patients' medical documents including copying, routing, referrals filing, date entry, etc.
Assists with health promotion projects/program.
Cleans the Medical mobile van after each use including floors, counters and equipment. Follows the infection control procedures.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Physical effort is used reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arm, feet, and legs to operate hand controls on vehicle operated. Incumbent may exert moderate physical effort in the frequent handling of objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and the occasional handling of heavier objects while assisting patients. Considerable physical effort may be required to change tires and make limited emergency repairs.
While performing housekeeping duties, light physical effort such as that involved in using vacuum cleaners and dry mops; running lightweight powered scrubbers and buffers; continually standing, bending, stooping, and reaching, frequently lifting and emptying wastebaskets; frequently pushing carts loaded with dirty laundry or waste paper; and occasionally lifting and carrying items weighing up to and over 20 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: As an MVO, incumbent is required to operate vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Incumbent drives in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated roads and interchange systems.
While performing housekeeping duties; works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, lighting, and ventilation; is exposed to dirt and disagreeable odors.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
