The purpose of this position is to serve as an Motor Vehicle Operator. Operating a variety of motor vehicles capable of carrying passengers/patients, and loads up to and including one (1) ton. This position will also serve as a custodial worker performing the full range of cleaning tasks in assigned areas. This position is located with the Emergency Department, Crownpoint Service Unit, Crownpoint, New Mexico.
Duties
Operates ambulances, pick-ups, carryalls, and sedans. Drives passengers/patients to and from designated locations. Ensures the safe transport of passengers/patients and cargo.
Operates vehicles under emergency and non-emergency conditions to transport patients to and from the designated locations.
Performs preventative maintenance services on transport vehicles, (i.e. Check fluids, check tire pressure, refuels vehicles after transports, reports any malfunctions to supervisor).
Performs custodial duties when not performing transports; vacuuming, dusting, moping floors in offices, bathrooms and other assigned areas. Empties trash and transports trash to dumpsters.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Vehicle Maintenance
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Physical effort is used reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arm, feet, and legs to operate hand controls on vehicle operated. Incumbent may exert moderate physical effort in the frequent handling of objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and the occasional handling of heavier objects while assisting patients. Considerable physical effort may be required to change tires and make limited emergency repairs.
While performing housekeeping duties, light physical effort such as that involved in using vacuum cleaners and dry mops; running lightweight powered scrubbers and buffers; continually standing, bending, stooping, and reaching, frequently lifting and emptying wastebaskets; frequently pushing carts loaded with dirty laundry or waste paper; and occasionally lifting and carrying items weighing up to and over 20 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: As an MVO, incumbent is required to operate vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Incumbent drives in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated roads and interchange systems.
While performing housekeeping duties; works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, lighting, and ventilation; is exposed to dirt and disagreeable odors.
Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
