Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Houston Field Office, located in Houston, TX, San Antonio, TX, Corpus Christi, TX and Austin, TX. Salary: Salary listed reflects the rest of U.S. scale and, if applicable, will be adjusted to meet the locality pay or cost of living expenses of the duty location upon selection.

Duties

This position will allow you to use your expertise in administration to provide substantive clerical support to CBP management. This position starts at a salary of $37,696.00 (GS-05, Step 1) to $60,703.00 (GS-06, Step 10) with promotion potential to $60,703 (GS-7 Step 10). Typical work assignments include: Drafting and developing information material to employees to inform and maintain awareness of agency plans and programs Preparing a variety of recurring, budget and accounting reports based on established practice Coordinating and monitoring the organization's property management and space utilization programs Providing assistance to higher graded Mission Support Specialist with various Human Resources procedures Establishing, maintaining, and monitoring a variety of records and statistical data regarding the administrative services provided

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-05 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Assisting in preparing press releases and in planning for public affairs campaigns, e.g., arranges for meeting space and drafting handouts. Assisting in preparing budget requests by compiling data and by preparing justification statements based on information provided. Assisting with routine procurement's by preparing purchase orders and supporting documents, as required. Maintaining the organization's personnel files and records. Providing general clerical support. Experience: You qualify for the GS-06 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Tracking budget transactions such as obligations, expenditures, transfers and reimbursements in order to ascertain the status of funds. Coordinating and monitoring the organization's property management and space utilization programs. Entering personnel actions in appropriate automated systems, assuring that they are appropriate and complete. Maintaining current vacancy and onboard data and table of organization. Participating in preparing workload and productivity reports, gathering and compiling data to be used in evaluating areas for process improvements. Education Substitution GS-05: Successful completion of a full four-year course of study above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite may substitute for specialized experience at this level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Education Substitution GS-06: There is not an educational substitution at the GS-06 grade level. Combining Experience and Education: To combine your education and experience, convert each to a percentage and then add the percentages. If your education is described in quarter hours, multiply by the fraction 2/3 to convert into semester hours, then divide the semester hours by 18. To determine your percentage of qualifying experience, divide your total months of experience by the required number of months of experience. Add your percentages together. The total must equal at least 100% in order to qualify. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process by 07/20/2023. In order to be considered for this position, you must complete all required steps in the process. In addition to the application and application questionnaire, this position requires an online assessment. The online assessment measures critical general competencies required to perform the job. The assessment includes a cut score based on the minimum level of required proficiency in these critical general competencies. You must meet or exceed the cut score to be considered.
