This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is for a Paramedic at Fort Moore, Georgia located within the Martin Army Community Hospital.
Advanced In Hire (AIH) may be authorized.
Duties
Determine basic medical implications of wounds to treat appropriately.
Respond on-site to accidents and other emergencies involving injury/illnesses, or encounter situations which may be life threatening.
Perform thorough safety/maintenance inspections and minor repairs on emergency and patient transport vehicles to include a variety of medical equipment.
Determine proper method to stabilize patients with physical injuries, such as, fractures, dislocations and sprains.
Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation on patients through various techniques such as, intravenous (IV) insertion, intubation and drug administration.
Perform operator maintenance on the vehicles and equipment, as required to include decontaminates in accordance with established procedures.
Requirements
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires certification through the National Registry for Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).
- This position requires the employee to wear a uniform, scrubs, or other appropriate medical professional attire while on duty.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 45?lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes one year of specialized experience which includes responding to medical emergencies, accidents involving injury/illness; conducting examinations to obtain patient vital signs, initiating intravenous (IV) therapy, and/or operate emergency and patient transport vehicle. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Licensure/Certification: Incumbent must possess and maintain current certification through the National Registry for Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) commensurate with the requirements of the positions to which currently assigned (emergency medical technician-basic (EMT-B), emergency medical technician-immediate (EMT-I) and emergency medical technician-paramedic (EMT-P). Newly appointed civilian EMTs who are not NREMT-certified will, as a minimum, possess EMT certification from the State in which the employing Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) is located and any neighboring State(s) in which emergency responses are required. (Must attach certification) Employees who do not have the NREMT certification will be given up to 1 year to obtain national certification.
