This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located at the Directorate of Emergency Services (DES) Police/Provost Marshal Office, Fort Myer, VA. This position alternates duty locations between Ft Myer, VA and Ft McNair in Washington, DC. Ft Myer is the primary duty location and Ft McNair is the secondary duty location, as needed.

Duties

Check identification to ensure only authorized personnel are allowed access. Conduct random patrol patterns or surveillance to prevent unauthorized access. Patrol areas by foot or vehicle to check for possible security breach. Issue citations to traffic violators. Prepare an accurate report of investigation to support the legal process.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires you to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • This position is subject to Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete pre-placement and annual physical examinations.
  • The duties of this position may require the incumbent to work evenings, nights, holidays, and/or weekends to include modification in shifts and/or tour of duty.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid State-issued driver's license.
  • This position requires Firearms qualification testing.
  • Incumbent is required to wear a uniform that must be clean and possess a sharp and crisp appearance.
  • This position is designated as a Mission Essential position.
  • The position requires certification in CPR techniques and knowledge of first aid.
  • This position requires wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in case of chemical/hazardous emergency.
  • This position requires Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN)/Washington Area Law Enforcement System (WALES) certification.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain Virginia certification in the operation of the Model 5000 Intoxilyzer Breathalyzer.
  • Incumbent must meet the minimum standards IAW AR 190-56.
  • This position requires successful completion of the DoD Traffic Management and Accident Investigation course of instruction.
  • This position requires certification in various radar equipment.
  • This position requires the incumbent obtain and maintain law enforcement certification.
  • Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. GS-06 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing basic laws and regulations to maintain order and protect life and property; conducting vehicle or foot patrols; controlling access to restricted areas by verifying credentials; responding to calls for assistance; coordinating with law enforcement and emergency service agencies to render aid; escorting individuals or vehicles; directing traffic; or conducting personal or vehicle searches. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). GS-07 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing laws and regulations to maintain order and protect life and property; responding to calls for police assistance and emergency situations; coordinating with other law enforcement agencies and emergency services to render aid; arresting and mirandizing suspects; preserving evidence at crime scenes; conducting investigations of crimes and suspected criminal activities; conducting vehicle or foot patrols; writing accident reports; conducting field drug and alcohol testing of suspected offenders; operating radar speed detection devices; or conducting personal or vehicle searches. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
