This position is a Shift Leader/Housekeeping Aid in the Housekeeping Section of Facility Management Service (FMS), at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Boise, Idaho.

Duties

Major duties include but not limited to: Incumbent shall perform as the acting supervisor when the Unit Supervisor is absent. Acting independently and using personal initiative and knowledge of the Medical Center, the incumbent must be able to solve problems, handle emergencies , initiate call back procedures, and respond to requests for assistance from the Registered Nurse Officer of the Day (RNOD), Administrative Office of the Day (AOD), VA Police, and other Medical Center staff on a routine basis. TPassing on to other workers the instructions received from supervisors and getting work started, e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led; Working along with other workers and setting the pace; Demonstrating proper work methods; Seeing to it that needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations; Obtaining needed information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work. Maintaining a current knowledge, and answering questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (for example, technical orders); Seeing to it that there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew busy; Checking work while in progress and when finished to see whether the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met; Urging or advising other workers to follow instructions received from supervisors, and to meet deadlines. Assuring that safety and housekeeping rules are followed (for example, assuring that limits of safe machine operation is not exceeded and that all tools are used properly);Reporting to supervisors on status and progress of work, and causes of work delays; and Answering questions of supervisors on overall work operations and problems (for example, concerning, additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees).Incumbent will be required to schedule, perform, train, and lead a team of WG-2 housekeeping aids in all facets of housekeeping Aid duties including bedmaking , trash removal, linen handling, cleaning, vacuuming, sweeping, spot washing, restroom cleaning, waste removal, clean linen delivery, soiled linen removal, high dusting, dispenser replenishment , extraction of carpet and upholstered furniture, scrubbing of restroom floors, stripping and refinishing of tile and linoleum, drapery and cubicle curtain maintenance, etc. Incumbent is responsible for assuring that an adequate supply of materials is kept in stock. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/03/2023. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The ability to do the position of a Housekeeping Aid Leader in applying the necessary skills and techniques required to accomplish all aspects of an Environmental Program Service Sanitation Program. Experience include but not limited to: Maintaining an acceptable level of cleanliness and sanitation in all assigned areas of responsibility as well Perform, train, and lead other HKA in all housekeeping aid duties including bedmaking, trash removal, linen handling, cleaning , vacuuming, sweeping, spot washing, restroom cleaning , waste removal, clean linen delivery , soiled linen removal, high dusting, dispenser replenishment, extraction of carpet and upholstered furniture, scrubbing of restroom floors, stripping and refinishing of tile and linoleum, drapery and cubicle curtain maintenance, etc. Schedule housekeeping aid duties including stripping, refinishing, burnishing of floors, and carpet cleaning/extraction. Inspection of all equipment, vehicles, and tools prior to use to ensure that they are in proper operating condition, and that all safety devices are in place and properly utilized, etc. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements: Dexterity and SafetyInterpret Instructions, Specifications (other than blueprint reading)Lead or SuperviseUse and Maintain Tools and EquipmentWork Practices Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Position requires continuous walking, standing, stooping , lifting 50 pounds, moving and handling of equipment of various weight, and pushing and pulling heavy carts. Incumbent routinely operates power equipment, i.e., hydraulic lifts, scrubbing machines, steam cleaner, etc. Working Conditions: Incumbent must be able to sanitize rooms and equipment that may be heavily soiled and bloodstained; must be able to tolerate unpleasant odors . Incumbent is exposed to skin, eye, and lung irritants from germicides and other cleaning solutions. Incumbent must be able to work in areas with poor ventilation; is exposed to contagions and must follow Facility Management Service procedures to avoid danger to self and others. Incumbent will be exposed to extreme heat and cold, depending on season and weather conditions when working outside.
