The Office of Education (OE) goals and objectives are aligned to support government-wide efforts to attract and retain students (K-12) in STEM-based education in order to increase STEM competence and support an internal and external stakeholder base for the USPTO.

Duties

The physical worksite for this position is located in Alexandria, Virginia. *TELEWORK: This position is eligible for maximum telework per agency and business unit discretion/policy. *REMOTE WORK: Remote work may be available on a case by case basis. Prior to the start date, you may be given the opportunity to elect to work from the Alexandria headquarters, from an alternate/home location within the United States (defined as the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico), or a combination of headquarters and alternate location. Your salary/pay will be based on your selected worksite geographical location. The nature and scope of telework opportunities will be subject to the unit's telework policy and any applicable bargaining unit agreements. This position is located in the Office of the Chief Communications Officer (OCCO), Office of Education (OE), United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Qualifications

You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position. You must meet all eligibility and qualifications requirements by the closing date of the job announcement. OPM Qualifications Standards are available at here: Writing and Editing Series 1082 Specialized Experienceis experience that has equipped applicants with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, the next lower grade level is a GS-09. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience drafting articles, blogs, email alerts, video scripts, webpages, and other written communications on subject matter related to STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) and/or for an audience of teachers and students/learners. Experience using a web content management system such as Drupal. Experience editing written materials and proofing the work of others for grammatical errors. OR Education may be substituted as described in the education section of this vacancy. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Education MAY be substituted for experience at the GS-11 grade level for this position if the following criteria is met:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or
  • 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or
  • LL.M., if related

If this position requires proof of higher education, or you are substituting education for experience, you must submit an unofficial transcript or a list of courses that includes the following information: name of accredited institution, grades earned, completion dates, and quarter and semester hours earned. You must provide a copy of the letter containing the results of the equivalency evaluation with a course by course listing along with your application. Failure to provide such documentation when requested will result in lost consideration.
