Duties

You will independently coordinate and perform acquisition, collecting, sorting, classifying, and delivery of a wide variety of recyclable materials. You will store and safeguard items based on their content, value, size, shape and quantity. You will supervise all wage grade employees and oversee operations, including satellite facilities. You will assign work to individuals and provide technical direction and/or help in accomplishing difficult tasks. You will ensure that all recycling operations are in compliance with safety, hazardous waste/material handling and disposal practices, procedures and policies.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be able to possess or obtain and maintain forklift operator certificate within 6 months of employment.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current valid United States driver?s license.
  • Occasional travel off-base for a period up to five days per month may be required.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • The regular work schedule may include Saturdays.
  • The work is performed mostly outside, completing inspections and material handling, in all kinds of weather.
  • The work area may be hot, cold, damp, drafty, dusty, noisy, poorly lit, and other adverse working conditions.
  • The position requires wearing safety equipment as required and exercising precautions to avoid injury to or from the carelessness of other workers in the operation of balers, forklifts, and other equipment.
  • The position may expose employee to hazards associated with industrial activities and occasionally, hazardous waste.
  • The employee is subject to cuts, bruises, punctures, abrasions, burns, and falls when sorting, handling, hauling, baling, dismantling or cutting items.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. Work of the position includes managing a wide variety of recycling materials to ensure it is identified, classified, segregated, processed, containerized, stored properly, safeguarded, and delivered and/or picked up properly.
