The primary purpose of this position is to lead Transportation Assistants by providing call center, billing, shipping, and storage section-level services/support to DoD and/or US Coast Guard customers at a large regionalized Joint Personal Property Shipping Office.

Duties

Facilitate work schedules and sequence of operations to ensure an even flow and distribution of work for assigned employees. Resolve simple, informal complaints of employees and refer others to supervisor. Provide customer technical support center, fields calls, emails, social media and other correspondence; prioritizes workflow task queues for action. Interpret guidelines and instructions, determine the approach, and adapt the process, to resolve customer concerns, prioritizing workflow tasks for action. Estimate or validate charges, not limited to handling services, temporary storage, third-party services, mileage rates and accessorial services.

  • Some walking, standing, stooping, bending and carrying of light objects is required.
  • May be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • May be required to travel on military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty.
  • Disclosure of Political Appointments is required

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Group Standard for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of a Lead Transportation Assistant (Personal Property). Specialized experience is experience which may have been gained while assisting with arranging transportation, movement of freight, passengers, or personal property by various means; monitoring established traffic management operating procedures and controls to ensure the availability of responsive, efficient, and cost effective transportation and operating the movement of personal property including counseling, determination of member's entitlements, and unearned transportation entitlements. Knowledge of all modes of transportation for movement of personal property, passengers, and cargo to include factors affecting that transportation, such as public laws, foreign requirements, organization's policies and limitations/capabilities of the different transportation modes. 2. Knowledge of transportation regulations, policies and guidelines and traffic management policies and procedures and knowledge of organizational missions, objectives, procedures, and regulatory framework for traffic management programs and operation. 3. Skill and ability to utilize technical and functional experience with developing and recommending solutions to complex transportation problems and initiatives. 4. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 5. Ability to lead. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
