The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) is an independent, nonpartisan agency that provides information and analyses to Congress and federal agencies, and recommends improvements to make government work better. OGC's Legal Operations Group seeks a highly motivated and customer-service oriented individual to carry out a wide range of administrative functions to ensure the efficient and effective operation of OGC and to support GAO attorneys in carrying out their mission-related roles.
Duties
As an Administrative Specialist, AC-0301-3, your typical work assignments may include the following:
Serves as the confidential assistant and advisor to the Assistant General Counsel and Managing Associate General Counsel for Legal Operations.
Provides advice and recommendations to Legal Operations staff on all matters relative to the coordination, integration, and synchronization of staff actions, events, and activities affecting and involving OGC.
Develops briefing materials and pre- meeting reports to ensure that staff members are prepared for meetings.
Maintains the Legal Operations calendar, including coordinating the schedules of Legal Operations staff and coordinates with staff outside GAO i.e. personnel from Federal agencies, the Congress, and special committees to manage conflicts in schedules to ensure that the goals, objectives, and timetables of Legal Operations are met.
Perform research to determine the practical implementation steps of new and innovative administrative support processes, products and procedures; and collaborate with others within and outside OGC to implement new and innovative administrative support initiatives.
Qualifications
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service or private sector which has equipped the applicant with the skills and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: (1) Performing administrative and management functions in at least one of the following areas: human capital, budgeting, contracting or security (2) researching, analyzing and gathering information in support of administrative programs and operations; (3) preparing a variety of written products including preliminary and finished correspondence, reports and documents; and (4) providing advice and guidance on administrative and program issues.
OR
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
OR
Combination of experience and education as described above which, when combined, is equivalent to 100% of the qualification requirement. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
