Duties

This position reports to the Senior Director of Multidisciplinary Arts & Equity in the Office of Strategy, Programs, & Engagement (SPE) of the National Endowment for the Arts. -The incumbent serves as the agency's nationally recognized leader and authority for the field of Folk and Traditional Arts, which are rooted in and reflective of the cultural life of a community. These artistic traditions are shaped by values and standards of excellence that are passed from generation to generation, most often within family and community, through demonstration, conversation, and practice. Genres of artistic activity include, but are not limited to, music, dance, crafts, and oral expression. -The incumbent serves as the Folk and Traditional Arts field expert to advise senior staff about trends that may influence programming and funding opportunities. -In addition, the Director serves as a member of the SPE Management Team and contributes to their efforts to provide national leadership and direction for the Office.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, you must have at least one year of full-time specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-14 level in the Federal service, with experience in performing the following duties: 1) serving as a Folk and Traditional Arts field expert to advise senior staff about trends that may influence programming and funding opportunities; 2) providing leadership and direction concerning agency programming and funding assessments for the Folk and Traditional Arts field; and 3) overseeing arts grant processes from application, to grant, to final report. PLEASE NOTE: You must have all of the experience described above, including experience with the Folk and Traditional Arts field in order to qualify for this position. If you do not have experience in the Folk and Traditional Arts field, you will be rated ineligible. Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your skills, knowledge, and abilities as they relate to this position. Therefore, we encourage you to be clear and specific when describing your experience. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the advertised grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the dates worked and total number of hours per week. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office. Qualifications Must Be Met: The qualification requirements listed above must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Interagency/Career Transition Assistance Program (I/CTAP) Eligibles: If you have never worked for the federal government, you are not I/CTAP eligible.
