Join our team in the Ombuds Office to assist the NIH community in promoting healthy collaboration while resolving scientific, clinical, and work-related conflicts. No prior Ombuds experience is required. Experience in a scientific, clinical, medical, or academic setting, and/or experience in counseling, organizational development, coaching, biomedical ethics, or crisis management is preferred, but not required.
Duties
Providing confidential and informal assistance to scientists, clinicians, managers and employees to resolve sensitive and often moderately complex scientific, clinical, and work-related issues.
Working with individual parties to understand the basic nature of the disputes, issues involved, and positions of various parties to analyze the overall context of dispute situation, its complexity, and the action or basic approach to be taken.
Using a variety of resolution techniques to assist parties in addressing their concerns.
Providing consultation to the NIH community to improve collaboration and effective conflict management at NIH.
Participating in the delivery of conflict resolution and communication training for the NIH community.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications
To qualify for the GS-11: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: applying alternative dispute resolution techniques to assist in resolving interpersonal conflicts; conducting workshops or developing training materials on conflict resolution techniques or de-escalation procedures; and evaluating the effectiveness of dispute resolution methods and makes recommendations for improvement.
OR Completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.M., if related;
OR a combination of education and specialized experience that meets the qualification requirements for this position.
