About the Position: This position serves as the assistant Telecommunications Specialist/Network Analyst for William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC) in El Pasp, TX, and other serviced activities, providing subject matter expertise on the movement and networking of information through data communications.
Duties
Conduct studies to determine current and future telecommunications needs.
Determine equipment needs; configuration requirements; integration capability with current equipment and networks; and placement of equipment and cables.
Plan design, draw network layouts and facilities for new communications systems, modifications and upgrading of current data communication and telephone systems and cabling network.
Provide advice and assistance to Commander, staff and users throughout WBAMC and serviced area.
Assist in managing and monitoring the contracts involving networking equipment, cabling services and maintenance of equipment.
Determine priorities for the procurement of related equipment, material and supplies; alternatives; cost of equipment and services; etc.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes monitoring, repairing, and/or installing telecommunication systems; advising customers on the maintenance or repair of telecommunication systems; and utilizing blue prints or maps to determine placement of cables for installation or construction. This definition of specialized experience is typical, or work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as a major study in electrical or electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, public utilities, statistics, computer science, telecommunications management, information systems management, business administration, industrial management, or other fields related to the position to be filled. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
