You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (NUCLEAR) in the NUCLEAR ENGINEERING & PLANNING DEPARTMENT, ENGINEER TRAINING BRANCH (Code 2301.5) of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

Duties

You will plan, prepare, and administer instruction of a nuclear engineering training program. You will have technical understanding of the principles and practices of radiological controls to include pressurized water reactor and nuclear power. You will develop new courses or lesson plans based on emergent needs or to support new training goals. You will evaluate and monitor nuclear training given by the department or shop personnel for accuracy and proper presentation of the material. You will incorporate changes of technical information and requirements into Shipyard Instructions.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector overseeing and administering technical nuclear engineering training program methods, principles, requirements, practices, and radiological controls that include the operation of nuclear pressurized water reactors, nuclear power plants, or other nuclear systems and developing new or modified work processes or procedures to resolve technical problems. Basic Requirements:

Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 or equivalent and above):

Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.

Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:

  • Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
  • Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.
