This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is with the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Logistics Activity, CELRB, Logistics Management Office.
Duty location: Buffalo, New York.
Duties
Performs maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related fixtures, utilities, and general equipment.
Utilizes a variety of small, powered hand tools.
Performs a variety of manual labor duties, such as lifting, carrying, and installing parts and equipment that can weigh up to 50 pounds.
Maintains and repairs Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems.
Perform minor electrical repairs
Drives trucks to transport material and equipment to work sites.
Serves as the Contracting Officer Representative for preventive maintenance contracts such as elevator, fire protection system, janitorial services, HVAC and heating service, HVAC controls, pest control and restroom deodorizer contractor.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State driver's license.
- Annual and pre-employment physical is required.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic without more than normal supervision. I have performed the majority of the duties of a Maintenance Worker such as carpentry and plumbing repairs. I have full level skills in operating all associated tools and equipment related to the sub journeyman level skills. I have experience operating and maintaining motor vehicles. I conduct routine inspections of common use areas i.e., bathrooms, hallways, conference rooms, etc., to ensure that all utilities are in satisfactory operating condition. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort: The maintenance worker makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and where the parts to be repaired or replaced are in hard-to-reach places. The worker is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring positions, as well as reach and walk over rough terrain. The worker frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. May handle heavier items with weight lifting equipment or with assistance from other workers. Must be able to climb incline (hill) up to 10 feet high and ladders up to 24 feet high. Must be able to stand for two hour duration. Must have normal finger dexterity. May be working at close proximity to bodies of water.
Working Conditions: The work is performed inside and outside and is sometimes dirty, dusty and greasy. The worker is sometimes required to make repairs in bad weather. The worker has occasional exposure to the possibility of broken bones, scrapes, burns, insect bites, and sewage.
