The position is located in the Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA), Pentagon Police Division, Special Operations Branch. As a Supervisory Police Officer, the primary responsibilities are for force protection, security, and law enforcement in the NCR for the people, facilities, infrastructure, and other resources at the Pentagon Reservation and for DoD activities and DoD occupied facilities not under the jurisdiction of a Military Department.
Duties
Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following:
Plans for current, and long-range operations based on workload trends, policies and project requirements of the detachment to assure law enforcement and security operations are performed in accordance with regulatory procedures and meet security and law enforcement requirements.
Advises immediate supervisors of security requirements and justifies changes to security plans and programs, staffing levels and priorities to meet requirements.
Implements the necessary administrative responsibilities of the first line supervisors to include duties such asl planning work and schedules; assigned work based on priorities and employee skills; establishing performance standard and evaluation performance; providing advice, counsel and instruction on work and administrative matters; hearing resolving employee complaints and referring more serious unresolved complaints to a high level supervisor; effecting minor disciplinary actions and recommending action in more serious cases; and identifying developmental and training opportunities.
Responsible for providing Counter Assault Team(CAT) due to open-source and classified from State Sponsored Terrorist Groups.
Responsible for the protection of the lives and property of the community and all visitors within area, and the satisfactory performance and general supervision of approximately 10 officers/employees depending on shift assignment and special situations.
May be appointed as the Property Custodian to interact with elements of the OSD Property Management Branch with signatory authority for acquisition of government personal property.
Establishes and maintains a records and evidence system that will enhance the effectiveness of the retrieval and dispersing of police or public information to those with a need to know.
Serves as a supervisor of the Emergency Response Team which is responsible for special situations such as hostage taking armed intrusions, sniper, terrorist incident, and Weapons of Mass Destruction or chemical incident/accident response.
Responsible for use of all available weapons or tactics to prevent injury or loss of life by bystanders.

- Employees assigned to this position are designated as MISSION ESSENTIAL EMPLOYEE. MISSION ESSENTIAL EMPLOYEES are expected to report for, or remain at, work in dismissal or closure situations unless otherwise directed by their supervisor.
- The incumbent may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays and/or overtime.
- Incumbent must present a professional and competent image with a clean, neatly pressed uniform or attire. Safety and effective performance requires a well-groomed and tidy appearance, proper decorum and appropriate responses.
- Must meet requirements of "Lautenberg Agreement" which outline rules regarding carry of firearms.
- The incumbent must qualify monthly, quarterly, and /or bi-annually, as applicable, with assigned weapon(s).
- Police Officers assigned to ‘Special Units” may be eligible for an additional 6% supplement (Special Unit Pay) upon successful
completion of required training.
Qualifications
ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This position requires the incumbent to take and pass annual medical and physical fitness examinations; to carry and qualify with PFPA designated weapons twice a year on a test; to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), i.e., ballistic vests, etc.; and to pass all designated PFP/PPD certification programs. This includes being trained and then qualifying in how to deal with an active shooter.
The following medical requirements apply to all incumbents: good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, emotional and mental stability, and the ability to hear the conversational voice. In addition, the position requires common physical characteristics and abilities in agility, dexterity, and strength to endure regular and recurring physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, driving, bending, stooping, carrying or dragging unconscious victims up or down multiple flights of stairs, moving heavy or unwieldy objects over 50 lbs., running, climbing, crouching, crawling and kneeling during pursuit possibly in restricted, dark and hot or cold spaces, or defending oneself or others against physical attacks, possible exposure to explosives, chemicals, or other weapons of mass destruction (WMD).
The incumbent must be in a constant state of physical readiness and must be capable of demonstrating maximum physical exertion without warning. Any hesitancy, reluctance, or inability to fully engage in a critical situation that requires full-unrestricted physical capabilities could have tragic, if not fatal consequences.
This position is subject to recall 24/7 and incumbent is required to work shifts; days off vary. The incumbent may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays and/or overtime.
Retention in this position is contingent upon the successful completion and passing of all agency-training requirements.
Police Officers assigned to "Special Units" may be eligible for an additional 6% pay.
This position is not eligible for telework.

You may qualify at the AD-09 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the AD-08 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to EITHER:
1) Ability to plan and coordinate law enforcement work based on priorities and employee skills; 2) Ability to instruct employees in specific tasks and work assignments; 3) Ability to provide input and recommendations on work and administrative matters; and 4) Ability to comprehend and resolve employee complaints, referring more serious unresolved complaints to a higher level supervisor
OR
1) Enforcing a full range of federal, state, and/or local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations as they pertain to law enforcement work; 2) Conducting long and short term criminal investigations; 3) Evaluating crime prevention programs and recommending changes to reduce opportunities for theft, assault, illegal entry, or other kinds of violations; 4) Detecting and apprehending individuals committing acts of violence, theft of Federal, state, local, or personal property; and 5) Coordinating with other law enforcement agencies to gather facts or evidence for use in assigned cases and preparing detailed reports

ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: The VOW Act Chapter 21 of Title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.), Section 2108a, requires Federal agencies treat active duty service member as veterans, disabled veterans, and preference eligible, when they submit, at the time they apply for a Federal job, a "certification" of active service in lieu of a DD-214, assuming the service member is otherwise eligible. A "certification" letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service. The service member's military service dates are necessary in order to determine whether he or she meets the definition of "veteran" under 5 U.S.C. 2108(1). The "certification" must reflect the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions not later than 120 days after the date of submission. The "certification" must be signed by, or by direction of, the adjutant, personnel officer, or commander of your unit or higher headquarters and must indicate when your terminal leave will begin (if applicable), your rank, dates of active duty service, the type of discharge and character of service (i.e. honorable). Further, under paragraph (h) of the rule, agencies are required to verify a qualifying separation from military service prior to appointment, through the DD-214 or other appropriate documentation. Your preference and/or appointment eligibility will be verified prior to appointment. Active duty members that fail to provide a valid "certification" of service with their initial application will be found "not eligible." Military members may be appointed before the effective date of their military retirement/separation if member is on terminal leave.
