This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This vacancy is for the position of a Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-08, in which you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks incident to maintaining and operating the administrative and recreational facilities for the Coralville Lake Project Office.
Duties
Maintain recreational facilities to include roadways, fencing, picnic and camping areas, boat ramps, parking areas, and public restroom facilities.
Construct, repair, and/or modify structures such as frameworks for small temporary or permanent buildings (such as beach dressing rooms) building work benches, storage cupboards, shelves, or similar items.
Mix concrete and mortar, lay concrete blocks to provide foundations for small structures, lay/replace brick as required to maintain building, extend chimneys, etc.
Dig earth forms and placing and finishing concrete for fireplace facilities, etc.; utilize prepared wood forms for construction of sidewalks, boat ramps, etc.
Repair existing wiring systems by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, soldering, and insulating defective wiring, controls, switches and fixtures, etc.
Perform operational check on pumps, replace heaters, fuses, etc. as necessary to maintain required operational status.
Paint walls, woodwork, exterior trim, etc.; perform normal plumbing checks, bleeding lines, perform miscellaneous repairs as needed; clear brush/leaves/snow; and road and fence maintenance, collect trash, etc.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is subject to random drug testing in accordance with EP 600-1-3.
- Must possess a valid State motor vehicle operator's license for the class of vehicle being operated based on site specific, job related requirements, and must maintain this license.
- Required to lift 50 pounds or more.
- Pre-employment and annual physical is required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker~ without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience and/or show the ability to perform common maintenance tasks such as carpentry, masonry, electrical, and mechanical maintenance; and ability to perform various manual labor tasks, use and operate a variety of hand and power tools; repair, install, or replace plumbing and electrical fixtures; apply building principles when working with concrete and carpentry; perform grounds maintenance. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Majority of work requires light to moderate physical effort in the handling of equipment and tools, while working from scaffolds, standing, stooping, bending, working overhead, etc. On occasion, may be required to lift and carry items or materials weighing in excess of 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Depending upon type of duties being performed, works either outside under complete variety of weather conditions typical to the geographic area, or inside normally in heated or semi-heated areas. May be subject to electrical shock, burns, working in cramped quarters, normal cuts and bruises associated with handling a variety of hand tools, and/or more serious injury associated with power tools, mobile equipment, etc. Employees are required to follow established safe working procedures. Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided to minimize or reduce hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory.
