The primary purpose of this position is to lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and/or labor work on a substantially full time and continuing basis. Leader is responsible to both perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensures that subordinates completed assigned work consistent with trades and labor standards.
Duties
- Leads a team of trades and/or labor workers.
- Performs work.
- Performs scheduled and unscheduled aircraft and systems inspections.
- Sets up and operates common and specialized automatic test equipment (ATE).

- Perform foreign object (FO) inspections and walks IA W established regulations and procedures.
- Must pass aircraft tow procedures test and maintain certification annually.
- Must acquire and maintain Red-X inspection certification.
- May be required to work other than normal duty hours, rotating shifts, uncommon tours of duty, emergency call back, weekends, holidays, overtime, etc.
- May be required to travel TDY as directed my management, sometimes on short notice, traveling by military or
commercial aircraft, or any other designated means.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600 Electronic Equipment Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an ELECTRONICS MECHANIC LEADER without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Working knowledge ofa wide range of principles, processes, and techniques oftrade(s) and/or craft(s)
2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
3. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and equipment common to trades and labor work
performed by the group being led. Knowledge ofRed-X inspection procedures.
4. Skill in performing the trade and /or labor work of the group being led.
5. Ability to lead a team of three or more labor or trade employees.
6. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Heavy lifting (40 pounds). Lifts heavier items with assistance of other workers or lifting equipment. Moderate carrying (15-44 pounds). One hour of straight pulling a day. One hour of hand over hand pulling per day. One hour of pushing per day. Reaching above shoulders. Use of fingers. Both hands required. Five hours of walking or standing per day. Three hours of kneeling, bending, climbing, or crawling per day. Both legs required. Operation of a crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination required. Near vision correctable to 13 inches to 26 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4. Cannot be colorblind to colors used for runway operations (R, W, G). Both eyes required. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to distinguish shades of colors. Hearing aid permitted. Annual hearing test required.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee performs work either inside or outside. Subject to prevailing weather conditions, noise extremes, slippery or uneven surfaces and working in confined areas. Exposed to the possibility of fire, explosion, electric shock, burns, bruises, cuts, grease, oil, dirt, and fuel. Working around machinery with moving parts. Working around moving objects or vehicles. Working on ladders or scaffolding. Vibration. Working closely with others and alone.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
