About the Position: Located in Walter Reed National Military Medical Center with the Directorate for Education, Training, and Research in the Department of Graduate, Dental, and Medical Education at the Darnall Medical Library in Bethesda, Maryland. Parking at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center is limited, the use of commuting alternatives is recommended.

Duties

Oversee and facilitate the specialized information needs of clientele. Evaluate and acquire computer hardware and software. Establish library operating policies. Supervise a variety of professional library staff. Provide reference and research services on complex medical topics. Work with physicians and scientists to provide information for patient care. Integrate the libraries' current information platform with recent technological advances. Discipline employees and resolve personnel problems. Interview and select new employees in accordance with EEO guidelines. Determine training needs and ensure training is obtained.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Utilize an on-line Integrated Library System (ILS) tracking acquisitions, cataloging materials, and conducting literature searches; providing supervision, leadership, or direction to employees and their work; working with a Graduate Medical Education (GME) program(s) within a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF); Manage and/or create yearly budget to determine allocation of funding to acquire items such as journal articles, purchase unsubscribed articles or utilize inter-library loans. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and ManagementHuman Resources ManagementPlanning and EvaluatingTechnical Credibility Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
