The Accounting Technician position is located within the Fiscal Service at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Canandaigua, NY. This position provides accounting technician level support by performing work in support of budget, accounting, auditing and/or financial management.
Duties

The purpose of the Accounting Technician position is receiving, controlling, monitoring, validating, recording, analyzing, and reporting on accounting transactions that affect the assets, cost, liabilities, revenue, and proprietary accounts of programs serviced. Performs clerical, assistant, or technician level work in support of a budget, accounting, auditing, payroll, fiscal, and/or financial management function. Performs budget administration support, financial systems support or accounting technician work.
Qualifications
IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-6 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service (GS-5), that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of an Accounting Technician. Specialized experience for this position includes an understanding of accounting practices, polices and principles; maintaining financial accounts; verifying accuracy of data; coordinating various financial activities such as cash processing, disbursements, bank deposits, receipts, reconciling errors, discrepancies, non-standard transactions, etc.; preparing financial documents such as worksheets, reports, etc., and utilizing accounting software and computer systems to perform duties. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE.)

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary. Work is performed in an office setting.
