This position serves as a Medical Technician (Lab) and is located at the Pawnee Indian Health Center, Pawnee, Oklahoma. The incumbent will perform a variety of laboratory tests, examinations, and determinations on human tissue, body fluids and other substances. This position reports to the Laboratory Supervisor.
Duties
Performance of standardized procedures in accordance with established methodology manuals, technical references and precedents.
Conducts clinical laboratory tests and examinations to assist with workflow in all clinical laboratory sections.
Performs patient phlebotomy by venipuncture and capillary methods
Sorts and processes specimens received in central specimen receipt area of department
Performs clerical duties such as filing laboratory reports, making copies of reports, sending faxes, answering departmental telephone, generating email, utilizing the RPMS lab package and Electronic Health Record
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-04: Applicant(s) must meet one of the following minimum requirements to meet the GS-04 level:
Six months of general experience the provided familiarity with the subject matter of the position AND six months of specialized experience. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-03 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Specialized Experience examples include:With work being planned by supervisor and audited/reviewed; collect blood samples by venipuncture, heel sticks or capillary collection with supervision and few redraws; use venipuncture tube appropriately with few redraws ; process specimens correctly with few patient call backs; General Experience: (1) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. OR
Successful completion of an associate-degree course of study of which the 2nd year of the 2-year program included successful completion of a training course of approximately a year's duration in a certified laboratory assistant school approved by a nationally recognized accrediting agency; OR
1 year of study that included 6 semester hours in chemistry and/or the biological sciences, plus successful completion of a full-time training course of 1 year's duration in a medical or clinical laboratory assistant school that included instruction in chemistry, hematology, blood banking, and microbiology (including serology) and that, included supervised laboratory practice incident to the diagnostic process and the treatment of patients; OR
2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours of chemistry and/or biological science course work that must have been directly related to the specialization of the position to be filled; OR
A combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-04 grade level.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
