This position is located within in the USDA Forest Service Northern Region, Region 1, Idaho Panhandle National Forests.
The position assists in managing and directing programs supporting the coordination, logistical support, and dispatch of fire and emergency resources across the nation, which includes all lands administered by various federal and state agencies.

Duties
Assist in the coordination the interagency support of wildland fire management (fire suppression, fire preparedness, prescribed fire) and wildland urban interface activities to include mitigation, education and prevention team support.
Coordinate with federal and state agencies for ordering resources through the national dispatch system to support national emergencies.
Assist with managing all coordination center activities to include operations, logistics, and predictive services (e.g., intelligence and weather, on-going analysis of fuels and resources to prepare strategic plan).
Assist in planning, developing, and administering cooperative interagency agreements for a variety of emergency situations. Developing, organizing, and implementing an annual program of work to include short and long range operational plans.
Assist in developing briefing papers, information articles for cooperators, and fire and resource statistical information for cooperators, local governments, media outlets, and others regarding the status of all incidents.
May serve as a Contracting Officer Representative (COR) and manage contracted equipment and negotiate contracts for equipment services.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.

- This is a drug testing designated position. You will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. Appointment is based on a negative result. This announcement constitutes 30 days advance notice.
- Subject to one year supervisory/managerial probationary period unless prior service is creditable. New USDA supervisors must successfully complete all components of the required training program before the end of their probationary period.
- Secondary Coverage: Prior wildland firefighting experience is required.
- Willing to live/work in remote locations (volatile/unpredictable).

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-12 level: Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-11 grade. Examples of specialized experience are: Assisting in overall leadership, direction, and coordination of an interagency logistical support and emergency resources center; assisting in coordinating the interagency support of wildland fire management such as fire suppression, fire preparedness, and prescribed fire; assisting with managing all dispatch activities to include operations, logistics, and predictive services such as intelligence and weather, and on-going analysis of fuels and resources to prepare a strategic plan.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
FIREFIGHTER RETIREMENT COVERAGE: This is a secondary firefighter position under 5 USC 8336© (CSRS) and 8412(d) (FERS). Prior wildland firefighting experience is required. There is no age limit for entry into secondary positions. Firefighter retirement coverage of the incumbent depends upon his or her individual work history.
