Duties
In this position, you will:
Inspect, test, and repair transformers, circuit breakers, underground cables, and high-voltage distribution systems operating at 13,800/7200 volts
Install, modify, and maintain high-voltage electrical equipment and control systems
Use diagnostic tools such as meggers and voltmeters to identify and resolve faults in electrical systems
Plan and perform installation, maintenance, and repair tasks in accordance with safety standards
Splice and repair underground cables using appropriate tools and techniques
Interpret electrical drawings and schematics to guide maintenance and repair work
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
- Suitable for Federal employment
- Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment medical examination
- This position requires call back or emergency overtime
- Bargaining Unit Position: Yes - Washington Area Metal Trades Council (WAMTC), AFL-CIO
Qualifications
There are no specific length or level of experience requirements. The applicant's overall background of experience, education, and training must clearly demonstrate the ability to perform high-voltage electrician duties, such as inspecting, testing, and repairing high-voltage systems without more than normal supervision
Applicants must pass the screen-out question and achieve an overall score of at least fifty (50%) or higher on the applicant assessment.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
