This position will serve as Program Support Assistant for the Anesthesia Service at the VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS). The primary purpose of the position is to provide program support and assistance to Anesthesia Services on practical and technical aspects of office administration. The incumbent is part of a collaborative team of clinical and administrative staff working to coordinate accessible on time quality care for all Veterans.
Duties
The duties of the Program Support Assistant may include but are not limited to the following:
Ability to prepare various forms of correspondence.
Ability to perform various administrative and clerical functions.
Skill in using automated office systems to maintain and retrieve data, respond to inquiries, and prepare reports.
Knowledge of procedures involving government purchases.
Coordinate requests for training of employees that includes logistical matters.
Access information (data) available on VISTA/CPRS and other computer systems when appropriate.
Handle clinic functions as it pertains to patient scheduling, gathering medical records for physician review.
Type meeting minutes, policies, memoranda, manuscripts, publications, and other correspondence as requested.
Apply word processing procedures and function keys required to execute office automation functions such as storing and retrieving electronic documents and files; activating printers; inserting and deleting text; formatting letters, reports and memoranda; and transmitting and receiving emails.
The duties of the position require utilization of different processes and methods to accomplish the work and performs an extensive number of duties in relation to Anesthesia Services. Anesthesia Services is ever-evolving and to be successful in the position the incumbent must demonstrate a high level of adaptability, flexibility and teamwork.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/27/2025.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Specialized Experience: GS-07 QUALIFICATIONS. You must have completed at least One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-06) in the Federal service that has equipped the applicant with the adequate knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: using a computer to process and analyze data; sorting and processing incoming correspondences; assisting with personnel management activities, gathering information, entering data, and formulating letters, reports or other documents; advising others on processes or procedures; verifying accuracy and completeness of information on paper or computer documents; maintaining security or confidentiality of records, equipment, or computer access.
